David was a member of our congregation and a great all around kid. His family and friends remember him as a brilliant, quiet youth—an honor student with big dreams who loved to play soccer. He was also an amazing guitarist—self-taught—and played in a band with his brother Jonathan. His life was tragically cut short when he died in an automobile accident just before his seventeenth birthday. That was 15 years ago,

The David Manierre Scholarship Fund was established from the memorial gifts of his friends and family. ​Today, we are proud to honor his life and further his legacy by making scholarships available to young people in our church and our partner congregation, Iglesia Misión Bautista Hispana de Westchester. Over the years, these scholarships have been awarded to many deserving candidates who are being helped to chase their own big dreams!

Congratulations to the eight, 2017-2018 David Manierre Scholarship Fund awardees! ​
They were chosen by the Scholarship Fund Committee in August.

• Jason Buret is attending Westchester Community College. The biblical meaning of his name is he that cures or healer. Others have observed that he helps them feel better when they are down. Jason intends to transfer to a 4-year college and aspires to a career in social work.
  
  
• Christian Chumpitazi is majoring in elementary education at Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY. He has always enjoyed working with kids, and hopes as a teacher, to continue being a role model.
  
  
• ​Christina Chumpitazi is studying biochemistry. After she gets her bachelor’s degree, she plans to to pass her MCAT test and attend medical school. Her goal is to become a pediatrician and help children with their illnesses and bring big smiles to their faces.
  
  
• Erika Franco is attending St. John's University in Queens, NY and intends to pursue biomedicine as a major. Although she has not yet decided on a specific career, she expects to choose one that will help others improve their lives.
  
  
• Grace Hamby is a freshman at Oberlin College, where she plans to explore as many new things as possible in order to uncover her core values and talents and find a career that compliments them.
  
  
• Jeffrey Hamby, a senior at Temple University, is continuing his studies towards a bachelor’s degree in environmental science. Upon graduation he would like to work in a job that addresses issues of environmental protection, conservation, and justice—one that helps to create healthy, livable, and sustainable communities for animals and humans alike.
  
  
• Evans Meireles, after carefully considering his interests, has chosen a career path that will put him on the front lines of cyber warfare. He is working on a bachelor's degree in cybersecurity and plans to go on to graduate school.

• Yohabet Tejeida is a junior at the University at Albany, SUNY. Her ambition is to pursue two bachelors' of science: one in business administration with a concentration in marketing and management and another in economics. After graduation her goal is to get a master's in international business and work at UNICEF as their vice president of marketing.
