Mission

Special Mission Opportunity:

Center of Hope (Haiti) is a not-for-profit corporation formed for the purpose of developing and operating an orphanage in Hinche, Haiti. The orphanage will provide hope for the future of Haiti - its children. The orphanage complex, currently under construction, when completed will consist of an orphanage, an elementary school, a vocational school, a church, and a medical clinic.

"The church exists for mission as fire exists for burning."
– Rev. D. T. Niles

Church can be a comforting and consoling place on Sunday mornings. But Christians know better than to get too comfortable. In a world plagued with doubts, fears and injustices, the members of First Baptist Church sometimes have to remind themselves that their beautiful building is not a place to hide.

The church tithes its annual budget to mission.

The First Baptist Church of White Plains is a  strong supporter of the Unified Missions Program of American Baptist Churches USA.  The Missions Committee vigorously promotes  the four annual special ABC missions program offerings:  America for Christ, One Great Hour of Sharing, World Mission Offering and the Retired Ministers and Missionaries Offering.  The church also supports selected, individual ABC missions such as Bacone College, Muskogee, Okla.,  and the Colgate-Rochester Divinity School in Rochester, N.Y.

Some of the needs of people in our local area are met through our support of the Food Bank,  SHORE, Habitat for Humanity, Race Track Ministries, and Rural and Migrant Ministries. A Single Parent Group meets in the church and we provide matching scholarship funds for our college bound youth.

Our membership actively participates in our food drive for the Food Bank.  We have participated in Habitat’s workdays.  We have participated in support of SHORE since its inception, and have a representative on its Board.

We try to provide financial support to our missions, and encourage membership participation, where possible, with the missions we support.  We believe it is our Christian responsibility to be in service to our immediate and world communities.
