Food Pantry

The High cost of housing for low-income people in Westchester communities leaves very little money for them to buy food and other necessities.

It is almost impossible for the elderly, the single-parent family and the disabled to balance a very limited budget. Those recently released from institutions, the underemployed and the unemployed have a difficult time, too.

For Those experiencing any kind of emergency caused by sudden illness, substance abuse, fire, or the growing problem of homelessness, the budget just can't be balanced without assistance.

Since 1979 the ECUMENICAL EMERGENCY FOOD PANTRY has helped bridge this gap so that its clients can continue to function with dignity within their own communities.

For its clients, the FOOD PANTRY provides some needed relief and a sense that someone cares.

The Ecumenical Emergency Food Pantry welcomes all your donations of wholesome, non-perishable food.  From time to time the most urgent needs change depending on the availability of supplies and the volume of donations.  Right now the Food Pantry is in particular need of the following:

Cereal (14oz size)

Soup

Chili

Hash

Grape Jelly

Vegetarian  beans

Canned tomato sauce

Hot cereal

The FOOD PANTRY is run entirely by volunteers and is open 52 weeks of the year.  Distributions occur Friday morning from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.  Preparation work is done Thursday from 7:30 to noon. We operate from space graciously made available by St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, 3 Carhart Avenue, White Plains, NY

Jobs include packing bags for distribution, stocking food on shelves, receiving food deliveries, greeting clients and delivering their food, interviewing clients in either Spanish or English.  Since all our clients are interviewed, we often can facilitate networking for them as they seek jobs, clothing, food stamps, medical care, and housing.

If you would like to investigate becoming a FOOD PANTRY volunteer call Lorraine Buonocunto Thursday or Friday morning between 8:00 and 11:00 a.m. at 428-5770 or stop by and speak with her in person and get a first-hand look at the variety of jobs you could help perform.

You could also be a volunteer within your own religious community, neighborhood, or social organization by organizing the collection of much need food donations.
